Jonathan Brown Biography
Graduate of the University of the Pacific (International Relations) Began graduate school only to be lured away to a series of public policy jobs (White House, both sides of Congress and the California legislature) until I landed with the California Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. I did graduate study at George Washington (IR), Catholic (Education) and the Harvard Institute for Educational Leadership. I completed a doctorate in Public Administration at USC with a focus on Finance and Tax Policy.

During my career I served in various leadership positions related to higher education including as the Founding Chair of United Educators RRG; the NAICU board ; as a congressionally appointed member of the National Commission on College Costs and the NACUBO College Cost Task Force and board of Tuition Plan Inc. I was able to help member institutions structure numerous financings of equipment and buildings and to form several consortiums for the purchase of goods and services important to colleges and universities.

I served on boards like California Casualty Indemnity Exchange, Centro Infantil de Los Angeles and Patronato Pro Ninos. I chaired the Regents of the Samuel Merritt University an innovative health science university in Northern California for seven years and also the search committee which selected the University’s current president.

I have two grown children and five grandchildren.
​
My interests outside of public policy and higher education include fly fishing, technology, digital photography and music. (I played in a bluegrass band when I was in high school.) I taught at the graduate level at University of Southern California as well as a number of Mexican universities.
